Richard Remsberg – 19 September 1955 to 1 April 2012
This site will be developed as a memorial to Richard Remsberg. He was a graduate of Miami University’s school of broadcasting. He spent most of his career in radio, but realized when his father died in his mid-60s, that he wanted to see as many countries as possible, and maybe live for a while in one of them.
He loved Thailand. Thought Australia was awesome. Europe. Asia. Central and South America. His passport covered a lot of ground. But it was Brasil where he want to stop. He learned Portuguese and found work as a teacher of English. He marched with samba bands and found a core of Americans living in Rio that became his Band of Brothers.
He had a heart condition that inhibited his swimming off the Copacabana Beach, but that’s not what caused his death. Somewhere in the genetic wiring of his body was the same faulty circuits that took his fathers life.
On Sunday, 1 April 2012 (yes, April Fools Day) he was out with some of his friends at small restaurant/nightclub for dinner and bluegrass music.
We receive the call around 10 PM EST. His friend Jamie, said Richard had dinner and just fell from his chair. Within a few minutes, after a quick pray, Richard’s spirit moved on to be with his father and mother. And, we’re left to wonder how it happens? Why it happens? And, of course, when will it happen to me?
If you knew Richard, please take the time to leave a comment.
Since we know he has friends in dozens of countries, we’re asking you to send, or post pictures that I can use in the next video.
You can email the pictures to: KenEnglish@AOL.com
As a closing thought, use your digital camera to capture images of the people you love, now. Don’t wait for the next time you see them. You may not see them again.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tribute. Richard was a childhood friend. Wow... a life lived in technicolor and to the fullest. Sincere condolences to his family and far-flung friends.
MUITA SAUDADE DO MEU AMIGO!!
ReplyDeleteEu vejo as fotos que tiramos juntos nesse video e ainda nao acredito que nao vou mais ve-lo. O meu grande amigo e muito especial vai ficar sempre no meu coracao. Saudades
